Intrinsically Safe Phones Not Like Your Mobile

We all use our mobile phones where ever we are, but it can be surprising where we should not be using our phones and where something designed not to create an explosion should be used. The technical term is intrinsically safe or ATEX mobile phones, and these communication devices should be used in places such as a petrol filling station, airport runway or even around the back of schools that have oil tanks.

These Apex phones are specially designed and manufactured to shield all heat sources and electric energy to prevent a spark that could start an explosion. they are not cheap at around £1000 each, but compared to the devastation a small low voltage spark could make of a business or even loss of life, means these mobile phones are essential in certain environments.

Working on oil rigs, refuelling planes are just 2 jobs where communication is key and where intrinsically safe mobile phones should be used for safety reasons. There are no cameras on these phones, just a number pad and clear voice communications, something we have forgotten about in the world of he modern mobile phone.
